PRESS STATEMENT
BILL O’REILLY’S RACIST MOCKERY OF MALAYSIA EXPOSES COLONIAL MENTALITY AND WESTERN ARROGANCE
Date: 18 April 2025
We categorically denounce the vile, racist, and arrogant remarks made by far-right US commentator Bill O’Reilly, who mocked Malaysia’s economy and ridiculed the dignity of the Malaysian people in a now-viral video.
To say that “Malays aren’t going to buy your stuff, they don’t have any money” is not only an outright lie — it is an insult to the 33 million citizens of Malaysia, a sovereign, economically developing Muslim-majority nation that has been forging powerful regional and global trade partnerships, including with China.
This remark reeks of colonial-era arrogance, supremacist ignorance, and deep-seated Islamophobia. Bill O’Reilly, a known peddler of right-wing propaganda, is no authority on global economics, diplomacy, or Southeast Asian affairs. His comment reflects a persistent Western pathology: the inability to accept the economic rise and independence of nations beyond the Anglo-American axis.
We reject his economic illiteracy outright:
●Malaysia is a key ASEAN economy with a GDP exceeding USD 400 billion, a global leader in halal industries, semiconductor manufacturing, palm oil exports, and a central actor in South-South cooperation.
●The recent visit of President Xi Jinping marked the deepening of strategic ties between Malaysia and China, culminating in 31 MoUs that span cutting-edge technology, AI, green energy, and maritime development.
●Malaysians are not poor — Malaysians are proud, resourceful, and forward-looking. Our economic strength is built on resilience, not war profiteering and neocolonial plunder.
We stand behind Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s response, calling out O’Reilly’s imperialist mindset — a relic of a dying worldview where the West speaks and the rest obeys.
MAPIM calls on:
- All Malaysians to reject such attacks on our dignity with unity and pride;
- ASEAN leaders to speak out against Western condescension;
- Global Muslim organizations to recognize this as not just an insult to Malaysia, but to the broader Muslim world.
Bill O’Reilly’s comments reflect more than ignorance — they reflect a toxic mix of racism, Islamophobia, and cultural superiority complex. These ideas belong in the dustbin of history.
Malaysia will not be bullied. The world no longer kneels to imperial tongues.
