Press Statement
18 April 2025
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) expresses its unwavering solidarity with all Palestinian prisoners on the occasion of Palestinian Prisoners’ Day, observed annually on April 17.
MAPIM strongly condemns the continued cruelty of the Zionist occupation regime of Israel against more than 10,000 Palestinian detainees — including children, women, medical workers, and humanitarian activists — who are currently held across more than 20 detention centers, subjected to horrific and inhumane torture.
We are shocked and outraged by recent revelations that over 4,000 Gazans have been detained since the start of the genocidal war. Many have become victims of enforced disappearance and are being systematically tortured in the Israeli military camp of “Sde Teiman,” now widely referred to as Israel’s “torture slaughterhouse.”
Palestinian prisoners have reportedly been subjected to brutal methods including fingernail extraction, dog attacks, forced nudity, and sleep deprivation. At least 63 individuals have died as martyrs due to torture and denial of medical treatment. Israel continues to deny them their basic human rights, including access to medical care, family visits, and fair trials — all in blatant violation of the Geneva Conventions and international law.
MAPIM ASSERTS THAT:
- The arbitrary detention and torture of Palestinian prisoners constitute war crimes. Israel must be held accountable before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
- The international community must not remain silent. We call upon the UN, OIC, and all Muslim-majority countries to pressure Israel for the immediate release of all detainees, especially women, children, and humanitarian workers.
- MAPIM urges the Malaysian government to:
● Issue an official statement condemning these crimes.
● Summon the Israeli representative to the OIC to provide a formal explanation.
● Mobilize diplomatic efforts to demand an independent international investigation into Israel’s detention facilities.
- We also call upon all Muslims in Malaysia to:
● Perform special prayers (solat hajat) and qunut nazilah for the prisoners.
● Raise awareness of their suffering.
● Support campaigns for the release of Palestinian detainees.
● There can be no justice without the freedom of prisoners.
● There can be no peace without accountability for war crimes.
● Freedom for all Palestinian prisoners!
● Victory to the people of Palestine!
