MEDIA STATEMENT
Date: 23 April 2025
MAPIM strongly condemns the recent terror attack targeting tourists in Kashmir. We express our deepest condolences to the victims and their families and categorically state that such acts of violence against civilians, especially those visiting the region in peace, are unacceptable and must be unequivocally denounced by all.
However, this tragic incident must not divert attention from the root cause of the conflict in Kashmir — the long-standing denial of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
For over seven decades, the people of Kashmir have been subjected to military occupation, systemic human rights violations, and political repression. The abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, the massive militarization of the region, arbitrary detentions, media blackouts, and the suppression of civil liberties are all clear violations of international law and the United Nations resolutions on Kashmir.
Violence is a consequence of unresolved injustice. Peace in Kashmir cannot be achieved through force or suppression, but only through a just and democratic process that restores the inalienable rights of the Kashmiri people.
MAPIM calls upon:
- The Indian Government to end its policy of denial and repression and to engage in sincere, unconditional dialogue with all stakeholders, including the Kashmiri people, to find a lasting political solution based on self-determination.
- The United Nations and OIC to urgently intervene and push for the implementation of UN resolutions on Kashmir and to send fact-finding missions to assess the ground situation.
- The international community not to remain silent in the face of state-led oppression and to hold India accountable for its human rights violations in Kashmir.
MAPIM stands in solidarity with the oppressed people of Kashmir and affirms that the path to peace must begin with justice.
“Peace without justice is merely an illusion. The people of Kashmir deserve freedom, dignity, and the right to determine their own future.”
