Press Release
5 July 2025
“ When genocide becomes a business, silence becomes complicity .”
MAPIM welcomes and fully endorses the latest report by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, Francesca Albanese, titled “From Economy of Occupation to Economy of Genocide” (A/HRC/59/23). This report is a watershed moment in the international legal and moral confrontation with Israel’s system of apartheid, settler-colonialism, and now, a full-fledged genocidal economy.
We commend the courage of the Special Rapporteur in exposing the web of corporate complicity that undergirds Israel’s architecture of repression — one that has evolved from a military occupation into a systematic and industrialized machinery of ethnic cleansing and erasure of the Palestinian people.
- The Genocide Economy – A Global Crime for Profit
The report rightly asserts that the Israeli regime is not acting alone. Behind its tanks and bulldozers stand a powerful coalition of multinational corporations, financial institutions, arms manufacturers, digital surveillance companies, and real estate developers, all of which profit from the destruction of Palestinian life and land.
MAPIM echoes the report’s assertion: “This is no longer simply an occupation — it is an economy of genocide.”
Among the enablers:
● Weapons firms supplying bombs, drones, and sniper technology used in massacres.
●Construction companies building illegal settlements and apartheid walls.
●Tech firms that provide surveillance systems to monitor, control and dehumanize Palestinians.
●Financial institutions that fund the expansion of settlements and the displacement economy.
MAPIM demands international criminal accountability for these actors, including corporate executives, investors, and states who host and shield them.
- *International Law Has Been Weaponized — Against the Oppressed
- The report also highlights the abdication of duty by state actors and global institutions, who have either remained complicit or neutral in the face of overwhelming evidence of war crimes, apartheid, and genocide. MAPIM stresses that :
1.Article II of the Genocide Convention is being violated with impunity.
2.The Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court must now be urgently operationalized — not only against Israeli officials but also the corporations facilitating mass atrocities.
3.Universal jurisdiction must be invoked by any state willing to uphold international justice, to sanction, prosecute and blacklist complicit entities.
4.The myth that Israel is a democracy defending itself has collapsed. The world is witnessing a racialized economy of extermination, funded by global capital and enabled by the failures of political will.
- A Call for a Global Economic Intifada: End Corporate Complicity Now
MAPIM believes this report must be a turning point.
We call for:
●Immediate sanctions against companies identified as profiting from the occupation and genocide.
●International BDS escalation — divestment from corporations aiding Israeli apartheid, genocide, and colonization.
●A global registry of complicit corporations, modeled on the UN database, regularly updated and enforced with penalties.
●Legislation in member states to criminalize profiting from human rights abuses in occupied territories.
●A legally binding international treaty on business and human rights, with enforcement mechanisms.
This is not just a legal necessity; it is a moral imperative.
- Malaysia Must Lead With Courage
As one of the most vocal countries on the Palestinian issue, Malaysia must act decisively:
1.Conduct a national audit of Malaysian firms and investments possibly linked to the Israeli genocide economy.
2.Introduce Parliamentary legislation banning Malaysian business relations with Israeli-linked corporations.
3.Champion the call for corporate accountability at the UN General Assembly and Human Rights Council.
4.Mobilize ASEAN and OIC to form a unified economic bloc against genocide profiteering.
5.Encourage regional NGOs, trade unions, student groups, and religious organizations to boycott complicit entities.
MAPIM will work with all civil society and legal institutions in Malaysia to ensure our country is not complicit by silence or omission.
- Towards the Dismantling of the Apartheid-Genocide Regime
MAPIM underscores that this report must not be shelved as another documentation exercise. It must be the legal and political blueprint for the complete dismantling of Israel’s settler-colonial regime.
We reiterate:
“There can be no peace without justice, and no justice without accountability.”
●Israel must be treated not as a rogue state, but as a global criminal enterprise. The genocide in Gaza is not just a policy; it is a business model.
●The world must rise to declare: No profits on stolen land. No business in genocide. No more impunity.
MAPIM urges all member states of the UN Human Rights Council to:
- Adopt the report and its recommendations in full;
- Initiate legal action under international criminal law;
- Enforce economic and political pressure on complicit actors;
- Recognize the right of the Palestinian people to resist occupation and colonial domination, as enshrined in international law. In Conclusion
Francesca Albanese’s report marks a historic reckoning. The curtain is finally being pulled back on a genocide long denied and now undeniable. History will remember those who stood silent — and those who acted.
MAPIM stands firmly on the side of justice, dignity, and the liberation of Palestine.
