BBC: Complicit in Silence, Guilty of Bias
The Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia (MAPIM) strongly condemns the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for its continued biased and censored coverage of Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
The recent open letter signed by over 300 media professionals and 107 BBC journalists has exposed what we have long suspected — that the BBC is not neutral, but rather complicit in whitewashing Israeli war crimes and suppressing the voices of the Palestinian people.
Censorship of Truth: BBC Drops Gaza Documentary
The BBC’s decision to cancel a commissioned documentary exposing Israeli attacks on medical workers in Gaza is not just editorial discretion — it is institutional complicity in genocide denial. The targeted killing of medics is a clear war crime under international law. Hiding such truth from the public is a betrayal of journalism’s ethical foundations.
MAPIM’s Stance:
- 🚫 We denounce the BBC’s censorship and editorial complicity in shielding Israel’s crimes from global scrutiny.
- 🎙️ We salute the BBC journalists and media professionals who have bravely broken ranks to defend press freedom and truth.
- 📣 We call on all Muslim and justice-loving viewers to challenge BBC’s narrative, support independent media, and pressure public broadcasters to uphold journalistic integrity.
- 💬 We urge international journalist associations, human rights bodies, and UN mechanisms to investigate media censorship and the manipulation of narratives that fuel genocide impunity. The Media War is Real — And It’s Being Lost by Silence
The BBC has become a tool of colonial narratives. While Palestinian children are being bombed, starved, and buried alive, the BBC debates “balance” — but balance without justice is betrayal.
To remain silent in the face of mass atrocity is to become an accomplice. To suppress the story of Gaza is to erase the victims.
🕊️ MAPIM’s Call to Action
We call on:
Muslim-majority governments to file formal protests against BBC bias.
Global civil society to mobilize against media whitewashing of genocide.
The public to fund and support independent Muslim journalism that tells the truth, resists propaganda, and uplifts the voices of the oppressed.
