Background & Current Situation
Pakistan is grappling with one of the worst flood disasters in recent decades, triggered by relentless monsoon rains, glacial lake outbursts, and dam water releases. Across multiple provinces—Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sindh, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan—the humanitarian crisis is escalating.
Key statistics and impacts:
Over 800 deaths have been reported nationwide since June, including 706 confirmed fatalities across all provinces, with 328 in KP alone .
The most severely affected regions include:
●Punjab: Over 1.5 million people affected, with over 1,400 villages submerged, 3 lakh acres of farmland destroyed, and 1,600 villages inundated—marking the worst flood in nearly four decades .
●Followting operational evacuations: Over 250,000 displaced in eastern Pakistan; 265,000+ evacuated in Punjab; nearly 250,000 displaced according to media reports .
● Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Flash floods and landslides have resulted in over 320 deaths, with 158 fatalities in Buner District alone and major infrastructure damage .
●Infrastructure & housing: Thousands of homes destroyed across northern Pakistan—826 houses demolished in KP and Balochistan; over 4,000 homes damaged; vital infrastructure like roads and bridges collapsed .
●Widespread devastation extends to Sindh and urban centers such as Karachi, where floods have overwhelmed drainage systems, causing widespread disruption and loss .
MAPIM’s Humanitarian Response Strategy
In light of this catastrophic humanitarian disaster, MAPIM is launching an urgent and coordinated relief campaign with the following objectives:
