PRESS STATEMENT
Kuala Lumpur | 2 March 2026
MAPIM strongly affirms that any attempt to impose regime change on a sovereign nation through military force, coercive pressure, or external aggression constitutes a grave violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
The principle of sovereignty and political independence of states is a cornerstone of the international order. Actions aimed at weakening, destabilizing, or forcibly altering the political leadership of a nation through military means undermine global stability and erode the credibility of international legal norms.
MAPIM stresses that under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, every sovereign state possesses the inherent right to self defence if subjected to armed attack.
This right applies equally to all nations without exception. No country can be denied its lawful right to protect its territorial integrity, population, and national sovereignty.
The normalization of coercive regime change policies threatens not only Iran but also the security of the wider international community.
If powerful states are allowed to determine political outcomes in other nations through force, the entire framework of international law risks collapse into geopolitical domination.
MAPIM also emphasizes that accountability must apply to all actors involved in acts of aggression. States that initiate, support, or facilitate unlawful military action may bear responsibility under international law for the consequences of such actions.
The current escalation carries serious risks to regional peace, global economic stability, and international security. Military confrontation involving major powers could trigger wider conflict with unpredictable humanitarian consequences affecting millions of civilians.
MAPIM calls upon the international community to:
- Uphold the United Nations Charter and reject unlawful military intervention.
- Respect the sovereignty and political independence of all nations.
- Prevent escalation that could destabilize regional and global security.
- Support diplomatic resolution based on justice and international law.
- Ensure accountability for violations of international legal principles.
MAPIM reiterates that lasting peace cannot be achieved through coercion, intimidation, or military domination. Peace must be built upon justice, respect for sovereignty, and adherence to international law.
The world must reject the dangerous precedent of regime change through force.
