ISRAEL MUST BE SANCTIONED – KILLINGS OF MEDIA WORKERS IS STRONGLY CONDEMNED
January 12, 2025The sudden change in Syria, in just 2 weeks, 28th November to 8th December 2024, shocked the world, the Assad regime that had been in power for over 50 years was overthrown. This unexpected event, however, has signs that it happened in a meticulous planning.
Amidst the Palestinian struggle bathed in blood by the Israeli criminals carrying out the worst genocidal operation in Gaza, the changes in Syria have caused the political setting of West Asia to shift to a new scenario albeit full of uncertainty.
We strongly condemn the latest Israeli attacks in Syria. This is an invasion and a clear violation of Syria’s sovereignty and Syria has the right to defend itself with a befitting military response.
Israel has now intentionally opened another battlefield in West Asia, namely in Syria, in addition to Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, Yemen. Israel clearly wants to expand the war to the level of the West Asia region, which will involve western powers such as America.
Israel is clearly a terrorist state that cannot be allowed to wage war on anyone it wants.
We urge the UN to act firmly against Israel. There is no other option but for the UN to intervene militarily against Israel.
Malaysia’s proposal that Israel be expelled from the UN, imposed full economic sanctions and all arms aid be blocked, should be implemented immediately.
Whatever the new future of Syria, it requires a comprehensive and sustainable solution that takes into account the complexity of the current crisis and the need for all parties to be at the negotiating table, especially the Hayat Tahrir As Shams (HTS) group and the Syrian government led by the Syrian Prime Minister.
A comprehensive political solution must be achieved by ensuring that there is no external intervention to determine the future of Syria.
A comprehensive national discussion that brings together all Syrian parties (government, opposition, civil society, minority communities) at the negotiating table to reach an agreement on the form of a new political system, must be held immediately.
In the process of building a New Syria, the Syrian constitution must guarantee social justice, equality, and human rights, as well as create a democratic system that takes into account the diversity of races and religions in Syria.
The concern among Western powers and religious groups that are instrumental in defending the Assad regime is that Islamists will come to power in Syria. This causes the Syrian people to be wary of external elements (agents) who will be tasked with stirring up tension to thwart the uprising in Syria and force them to submit to the Western Zionist agenda.
Syria is a strategic country around the Arab region. The fall of the regimes in Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Yemen, Tunisia must be learned because none of these countries has been successfully restored unless the chaotic domestic political scenario continues to paralyze the countries in question.
As a result, the freedom gained has failed to build the country out of various prolonged crises when the dictatorial regime was in power.
We pay special attention to the implications of the recent political changes in Syria for the Palestinian position.
For Israel, the liberation of Syria from the Asaad regime is an opportunity to weaken Iranian and Hezbollah support for Hamas fighters. In fact, the narrative that is being promoted is that the new Syria will be more pro-Israel. Thus, America will not be neutral in manipulating Syrian politics. It is an open secret that America is the mastermind in all political affairs in West Asia.
The Palestinian issue has become very central to West Asian politics. Syria has long been the focus of American and Israeli hegemony. Since 1918, the maneuvering of Western powers and pro-Israeli Arab states has focused on the strategy of using Syria as an important player to guarantee the existence of Israel.
Syria’s support for Palestine must be strengthened by setting aside any attempt to weaken the resistance movement against Israel by sharpening sectarian differences along Sunni and Shiite lines.
Western hegemony will strive to ensure that the liberation of Syria does not fall into the hands of Islamists. This is a priority for Israel and the Western powers. They are most upset if Islamist groups take control of the Syrian government.
That is why Israel acted quickly, while the new Syrian government was being formed, Israel attacked today 250 strategic targets in Syria to destroy all Syrian defense forces, including controlling the entire Golan Heights, which was the area of the 1974 agreement between Israel and Syria when Hafez Al Assad was in power.
Therefore, the world should not just watch Israel’s violence against Syria. Islamic countries around Syria such as Iran, Turkey and Iraq should support the revolution in Syria and help the Syrian people defend their sovereignty from Israeli attacks.
We believe that Malaysia as the Chairman of ASEAN 2025 and an influential member of the OIC, can play a role in smoothing the process of consultation and reconstruction in Syria.
We hope that the parties involved in the process of rebuilding Syria should be willing to listen openly and exchange opinions, especially to continue to show solidarity with Syria and continue to support Palestine.
