February 4, 2025MAPIM AND ALL MALAYSIAN ISLAMIC ORGANIZATIONS STRONGLY CONDEMN TRUMP’S IMPERIALISTIC STATEMENT ON GAZA – PALESTINE BELONGS TO PALESTINIANS, NOT FOREIGN POWERS!
February 5, 2025Press Release
5th February 2025
The Government of India has recently introduced legal measures that reportedly restrict or abolish waqf (wakaf) properties, which are historically endowed for religious, educational, and charitable purposes by the Muslim community. These properties include mosques, madrasas, cemeteries, and social welfare institutions playing a crucial role in preserving Islamic heritage and supporting underprivileged communities.
This move has raised serious concerns among Indian Muslims and international human rights organizations, as it may lead to the loss of religious and cultural identity, displacement of beneficiaries, and violations of religious freedom.
We call for :
1.The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to intervene as the collective voice of the Muslim world, must take urgent action to defend the rights of Muslims in India and ensure the protection of waqf properties.
2.We urge a diplomatic engagement to call
the Government of India to uphold the constitutional rights of Muslims and protect waqf properties.
3.OIC to request bilateral talks with Indian officials to ensure that waqf assets remain under community control.
4.We also urge OIC to mobilize its member states embassies in India to monitor and report on the situation.
5.MAPIM strongly call for a legal and Human Rights Advocacy to be launched to
support Indian Muslim organizations in legally challenging discriminatory laws in the Indian Supreme Court.
6.OIC should raise the issue at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and other international legal forums.
7.OIC should also commission an OIC legal experts to assess whether India’s actions violate international treaties on religious freedom and minority rights.
MAPIM will launch a Global Awareness Campaign to request an official OIC statement condemning any unlawful seizure or restriction of waqf properties.
8.We will engage with international media to highlight the implications of these legal changes on Indian Muslims and
partner with global human rights organizations to document and report cases of waqf property violations.
9.Relating to the economic and political leverage , we urge to encourage OIC member states to use diplomatic channels, trade relations, and economic partnerships to influence India’s policies regarding waqf properties.
10.They should consider sanctions or trade reviews if India continues with policies that harm Muslim religious and cultural rights.
11.OIC should mobilize Islamic financial institutions to explore funding and legal support for waqf property protection.
The protection of waqf properties is not just an Indian Muslim issue but a global Islamic concern. The OIC must act decisively to ensure that these properties remain protected, in accordance with international human rights principles.
A coordinated response involving diplomacy, legal action, and economic pressure will be essential in safeguarding the religious and cultural rights of Muslims in India..
We urge the OIC leadership to prioritize this matter and take swift action to defend Muslim heritage and rights.
