Your Holiness,
Subject: Urgent Appeal to Condemn Repeated Bombing of Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza and to Call Global Christian Leadership to Action
With utmost respect and deep reverence, we, the Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organization (MAPIM), write to Your Holiness with a heavy heart and a desperate plea for moral clarity and action.
On 13 April 2025, Israeli occupation forces once again launched a brutal airstrike on Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza—the oldest Christian hospital in the besieged territory. This sacred institution, which has stood for over a century as a sanctuary of mercy, was bombed for the second time, following the devastating attack on 17 October 2023, which claimed over 470 innocent lives.
We believe this act constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law, and more profoundly, a sacrilegious assault on a faith-based institution dedicated to healing and compassion. That it is Christian in identity makes this tragedy not just a war crime, but a desecration that echoes through the conscience of all people of faith.
We respectfully urge Your Holiness to:
- Publicly condemn the repeated bombing of Al-Ahli Arab Hospital and demand full accountability for those responsible;
- Call upon all bishops, archbishops, and Church leaders worldwide to raise their voices in unity to denounce this injustice and defend the sanctity of life and sacred spaces;
- Engage international institutions to demand independent investigations and legal action through the United Nations and international courts;
- Encourage interfaith solidarity with oppressed communities in Gaza, where Christian and Muslim lives alike are endangered daily.
Your Holiness, the world looks to the moral voice of the Vatican in times of profound darkness. We believe this is one such moment. Silence would not only embolden oppression—it would betray the Gospel values of justice, peace, and the defense of the oppressed.
We extend our hand in interfaith partnership, believing that when faiths stand together, tyranny trembles. May your leadership inspire the world to reclaim its moral compass and protect the sanctity of all human life.
