Press Release
15th May 2025
Today, on 15th May, we mark Nakbah Day – a solemn remembrance of the catastrophic displacement of over 750,000 Palestinians in 1948, when their land, homes, and rights were stolen in the creation of the Zionist state of Israel. This day remains a living wound in the conscience of humanity—a symbol of dispossession, occupation, and a decades-long struggle for justice.
But this year’s Nakbah Day comes amid one of the darkest and most devastating chapters in Palestinian history.
The situation in Gaza and the West Bank has deteriorated into a humanitarian nightmare of unprecedented proportions. Continuous bombings, targeted killings, mass displacements, and the systematic destruction of homes, hospitals, and schools reveal a clear pattern of ethnic cleansing and war crimes carried out with impunity.
What began as a historic tragedy in 1948 continues today in even more brutal forms. Nakbah is not just a memory—it is an ongoing reality.
MAPIM condemns in the strongest terms the continued crimes of the Israeli occupation and the global silence that emboldens it. The occupation’s brutality knows no bounds—from the siege on Gaza to the illegal settlements and apartheid policies in the West Bank. The collective punishment of an entire people cannot be justified under any pretext.
We call on the international community to:
- Recognize Nakbah Day as a day of solidarity with the Palestinian people and acknowledge the historical and ongoing injustices committed against them.
- Demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end to all forms of occupation, siege, and colonization.
- Support full accountability for war crimes under international law and end all military and diplomatic support for the apartheid regime.
- Uphold the right of return for Palestinian refugees, a right enshrined in UN Resolution 194.
- Amplify global civil society action through boycotts, divestments, and sanctions (BDS) to pressure Israel to comply with international law.
To the people of Palestine, MAPIM reaffirms our unwavering support. Your resilience and resistance inspire justice seekers around the world. Your struggle is not forgotten. On Nakbah Day, we mourn, we remember, and we recommit ourselves to the cause of liberation, justice, and peace.
The Nakbah is not over. But neither is the resistance.
