“The 1000 Flotilla” Launches Global Call After Israeli Forces Seize The Madleen Ship Led by Greta Thunberg.
As the siege on Gaza continues to strangle life and dignity, the international community bears witness not only to mass destruction, but also to the rising courage of individuals who resist. Among them is Madleen, the Palestinian girl whose haunting image, drenched in blood yet defiantly carrying the Palestinian flag, went viral across the world. Her symbolic act of resistance became a cry from the heart of Gaza — one that cannot be ignored.
Yet now, Madleen has disappeared. Reports indicate she was wounded in an Israeli airstrike shortly after the iconic image was captured. Her fate remains unknown — a tragic and urgent reminder of the impunity and terror faced by Palestinian civilians every day under the Israeli blockade.
Madleen’s image has become the face of this campaign — a rallying cry for all who will not stand by in silence.
The 1000 Flotilla: Global Call to Break the Siege on Gaza
In response to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the ongoing illegal siege imposed by Israel, a historic global initiative — The 1000 Flotilla: Call to Break the Siege — is being launched to mobilize an unprecedented international civil fleet to challenge the maritime blockade and deliver life-saving aid directly to the besieged people of Gaza.
This initiative calls upon civil society, humanitarian organizations, trade unions, faith-based movements, maritime workers, and peace-loving individuals from every continent to contribute ships, crews, medical supplies, food, and solidarity. The campaign aims to assemble a thousand vessels — symbolic of global unity and determination — to peacefully defy the blockade and demand an immediate end to the collective punishment of over two million Palestinians.
The siege on Gaza is a crime against humanity and a moral disgrace to the international community,
With the 1000 Flotilla, we declare that the world will no longer be silent. We are mobilizing the conscience of humanity to break the chains of this illegal blockade.
The proposal is for the flotilla to be scheduled to sail in phases from various ports around the world, converging in international waters before proceeding to Gaza. All vessels will operate under international maritime law and carry only humanitarian cargo. Legal teams, journalists, and observers will be on board to ensure transparency and safety.
This initiative builds on the legacy of past flotilla efforts — including the Mavi Marmara mission of 2010 — but scales it up to a global level. Unlike previous efforts, The 1000 Flotilla seeks to engage entire nations, mass movements, and the Global South to unite in confronting the impunity of the Zionist regime.
The international outcry is rising sharply following the illegal seizure of The Madleen, a humanitarian ship led by Swedish climate and human rights activist Greta Thunberg, by Israeli naval forces in international waters. The ship, part of a growing wave of civilian-led maritime missions to break the siege on Gaza, was carrying medical aid, food supplies, and a team of peace activists and journalists.
Despite clear markings and full transparency of its humanitarian mission, Israeli commandos boarded and forcefully captured The Madleen, detaining the crew and passengers, including Thunberg herself. Their current status remains unknown.
This brazen act of aggression has further galvanized the global movement to break the illegal blockade. The seizure of The Madleen — named after the Palestinian girl whose image became a symbol of resistance — has become a pivotal moment in the struggle to liberate Gaza from total siege.
Israel has now declared war not just on Gaza, but on the conscience of the world,
“The capture of The Madleen, led by one of the world’s most prominent non-violent activists, is proof that no voice, however peaceful, is safe from this regime’s brutality. This is the moment we say: enough.
The 1000 Flotilla: Call to Break the Siege — is a bold, global campaign to assemble a thousand civilian ships to sail to Gaza in peaceful defiance of the illegal maritime blockade. The campaign is mobilizing international civil society, trade unions, faith-based movements, maritime workers, students, and human rights defenders across all continents.
This is not just a mission — it is a movement of the world’s conscience to answer Madleen’s call and the cries of millions under siege.
The siege is not just a policy — it is a weapon of extermination. We will not wait for more children like Madleen to vanish.
We are preparing to sail — not with weapons, but with hope, solidarity, and humanity.”
This initiative is in response to the worsening situation – civil society across the world to be organised for the largest coordinated civilian maritime effort in history — to send 1,000 ships from every continent to break the siege on Gaza. This is no longer a symbolic action. It is a global nonviolent naval uprising against genocide, occupation, and the weaponization of starvation.
