Open Letter
To Ilhan Omar
Member of the United States Congress
Dear Congresswoman Ilhan Omar,
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
I write to you with deep respect and solidarity.
At a time when fear is weaponized, immigrants are scapegoated, and conscience is pressured into silence, you have chosen courage. You have spoken not from political convenience, but from the moral conscience of humanity and from the lived reality of citizens and immigrants who make up the soul of America.
Your principled stand against the politics and policies associated with Donald Trump is not merely opposition. It is moral resistance. It is a reminder that leadership is not measured by volume of power, but by the clarity of values.
You speak for those whose voices are marginalized.
You stand with immigrants who built America yet are treated as expendable.
You defend human dignity when it is easiest, and safest, to look away.
History teaches us that progress has always depended on individuals willing to endure criticism for the sake of justice.
Your voice continues that tradition. It affirms that America’s promise was never meant to belong to one race, one faith, or one ideology, but to all who believe in equality, human rights, and shared humanity.
In a world witnessing the normalization of hate, militarization of borders, and erosion of civil liberties, your courage sends a powerful message beyond the United States. It reaches oppressed communities, displaced migrants, and conscience driven citizens across the globe who still believe that moral leadership matters.
Please know that many around the world stand with you. Not because we agree on every policy, but because we recognize integrity when we see it. Because we understand that silence in the face of injustice is never neutral.
May your courage remain firm.
May your voice remain clear.
And may your leadership continue to reflect the highest ideals of justice, compassion, and humanity.
With respect and solidarity,
Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid
President
Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia (MAPIM)
