Press Release

MAPIM CALLS ON CHRISTIANS IN THE REGION TO DECLARE:
CHRISTIAN ZIONISM MUST BE REJECTED***
Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia expresses strong solidarity with the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem and fully supports their principled warning against Christian Zionism and all external political ideologies that endanger the unity, integrity, and survival of Christianity in the Holy Land.
A Moral Stand From Jerusalem’s Historic Churches
The recent statement by senior Christian leaders in Jerusalem is courageous and historic. It affirms a truth long recognised by Palestinians of all faiths:
Christian Zionism is not a Christian theology rooted in justice, compassion, or the teachings of Jesus Christ. It is a political ideology that instrumentalises faith to justify occupation, dispossession, and oppression.
By clearly naming Christian Zionism as a damaging ideology, the churches of Jerusalem have defended:
●The spiritual authority of historic Christianity
●The unity of Christian communities in the Holy Land
●The moral integrity of the Christian faith itself
This stand deserves regional and global support.
Christian Zionism: A Threat to Christians Themselves
MAPIM stresses that Christian Zionism does not protect Christians. It actively harms them.
Evidence on the ground is clear:
Palestinian Christian communities are shrinking at alarming rates
Church lands and properties face confiscation and legal harassment
Christian schools are disrupted through movement restrictions and permit denials
Settler violence increasingly targets Christian sites and institutions.
The ideology that claims to “bless Israel” has instead accelerated the erosion of one of the world’s oldest Christian civilisations.
Rejecting Faith Manipulation and the Prosperity Gospel
MAPIM is deeply concerned by the influence of extremist evangelical movements, particularly from the United States, that promote:
●Unconditional political and financial support for Israeli occupation
●The prosperity gospel that commodifies faith and equates material gain with divine favour
●A distorted theology that marginalises Palestinian Christians and silences historic churches
This is not religious devotion. It is the politicisation of faith for power and profit.
Interference in the Life of the Churches Is Unacceptable
MAPIM fully concurs with the Jerusalem churches that the welcoming of Christian Zionist actors at official levels constitutes unacceptable interference in the internal life of the churches.
No external political movement has the right to:
●Override the authority of Jerusalem’s historic Christian leadership
●Speak on behalf of Christianity in the Holy Land
●Undermine indigenous Christian communities for geopolitical agendas
Christianity in Palestine existed long before Zionism and will not survive if Zionism is imposed upon it.
A Call to Christians Across the Region
MAPIM calls upon:
●Churches in the Middle East
●Christian councils and synods in Asia and Africa
●Faith leaders, theologians, and Christian intellectuals
to publicly declare the rejection of Christian Zionism and to stand with:
●Palestinian Christians
●The historic churches of Jerusalem
●The principles of justice, peace, and human dignity
Silence at this moment is not neutrality. Silence enables erasure.
Shared Moral Responsibility
As Muslims, MAPIM affirms that the protection of Christian communities, churches, and holy sites in Palestine is a shared moral and religious responsibility.
The struggle against occupation is not a religious conflict. It is a struggle against injustice.
Muslims and Christians in Palestine have lived together for centuries. Their future must not be sacrificed to an imported ideology that serves occupation while claiming divine mandate.
Final Message
Christian Zionism must be rejected clearly, openly, and without ambiguity.
For the sake of Christianity in the Holy Land.
For the dignity of Palestinian Christians.
For the moral credibility of faith in a time of global injustice.
MAPIM stands with the churches of Jerusalem.
Justice demands nothing less.
Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid
President MAPIM
