A Call for Moral Leadership, Dignity, and Justice in a Time of Rising Islamophobia
In the Name of Humanity and Justice
Dear Mr Zohran Mamdani,
On behalf of the Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia (MAPIM), I extend our sincere congratulations to you on your growing leadership and principled voice in public life.
Your commitment to justice, equality, and the dignity of marginalized communities has resonated far beyond New York and the United States, reaching communities who continue to struggle under oppression and discrimination across the world.
Today, the Palestinians and Muslim minorities globally, including those in New York and across the United States, urgently need courageous leadership rooted in moral clarity.
We are witnessing a dangerous resurgence of Islamophobia, xenophobia, and dehumanizing political rhetoric, exacerbated by the discourse and policies associated with President Donald Trump and his allies. This climate has normalized hatred, emboldened extremist narratives, and placed Muslim communities under constant suspicion and threat.
MAPIM believes that this moment demands leaders who can reframe the public conversation: from fear to dignity, from exclusion to coexistence, and from silence to principled action.
We respectfully call upon your leadership to:
- Raise a clear and unwavering voice for the Palestinian people, whose suffering under occupation, siege, and collective punishment represents one of the gravest moral failures of our time
- Stand firmly against Islamophobia and xenophobia, whether institutional or societal, and challenge narratives that criminalize faith, migration, and identity
- Showcase coexistence without prejudice, affirming that justice for one community strengthens justice for all
- Defend the rights of Muslim minorities as an inseparable part of the broader struggle for civil rights, human dignity, and social equity
Palestine today is not only a geopolitical issue. It is a moral test. How leaders speak about Palestinians, Muslims, and minorities will shape the ethical direction of societies for generations to come.
MAPIM stands ready to engage, collaborate, and support all sincere efforts that uphold justice, peace, and human dignity. We believe that voices such as yours can help restore moral balance at a time when it is most needed.
We wish you strength, wisdom, and perseverance in your continued service, and we pray that your leadership contributes to a future grounded in justice, coexistence, and compassion.
With highest respect and solidarity,
MOHD AZMI ABDUL HAMID
