Open Letter to
YAB Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim
Prime Minister Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur | 6 March 2026
Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia (MAPIM) calls upon Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim to take urgent diplomatic leadership by initiating a Global South anti war movement and by urging the immediate convening of an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The escalating military confrontation involving the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran has pushed the West Asian region to a dangerously volatile stage. Continued military escalation risks triggering a wider regional war with severe consequences for global peace, economic stability and energy security.
At this critical moment the world cannot remain silent while unilateral military actions undermine international law and threaten the sovereignty of nations.
Malaysia has long been respected for its principled foreign policy and moral voice in the Global South. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia is well positioned to mobilize a collective diplomatic response that prioritizes peace, justice and adherence to international law.
MAPIM therefore urges the Malaysian government to take the following immediate initiatives:
Initiate a Global South Anti War Coalition involving countries from Asia, Africa and Latin America that reject military escalation and advocate diplomatic resolution of conflicts.
Call for an Emergency Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to formulate a unified response from the Muslim world regarding the escalating war and the protection of regional stability.
Engage the Non Aligned Movement and ASEAN partners to support international efforts aimed at de escalation and peaceful dialogue.
Advocate within the United Nations system for urgent diplomatic intervention to prevent the expansion of the conflict.
The Global South represents the majority of humanity and must not remain passive while geopolitical power struggles threaten global stability. The moral voice of nations committed to justice and peaceful coexistence must be heard.
MAPIM believes Malaysia can play a historic role in rallying responsible nations to defend international law and prevent the spread of war.
The time has come for principled leadership, collective diplomacy and a firm commitment to peace.
Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid
President
Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia (MAPIM)
