PRESS RELEASE
Kuala Lumpur | 14 March 2026
MyChild International strongly condemns the horrific attack on the Shajareh Tayyebeh Girls’ School in Minab, Iran, which resulted in the killing of a large number of schoolchildren during the ongoing war in the region.
Reports indicate that the school was struck by a missile during the early phase of the military assault on Iran on 28 February 2026, causing the deaths of more than 160 children and civilians, most of them young schoolgirls between the ages of seven and twelve.
The destruction of a school during school hours represents one of the most shocking and unacceptable acts of violence against children in recent years. Schools are universally recognized as protected civilian spaces under international humanitarian law. Attacks on such institutions are considered grave violations that may constitute war crimes.
Evidence emerging from international investigations, satellite imagery and weapons analysis suggests that the missile used in the strike was likely a U.S. Tomahawk cruise missile, raising serious concerns regarding the responsibility of the United States in the attack conducted during the broader US-Israel military operations against Iran.
The international community, including United Nations experts and human rights organizations, has already expressed profound shock and demanded a transparent investigation into the incident and accountability for those responsible.
MyChild International believes that the killing of children in a classroom is not merely a tragic accident of war. It represents a catastrophic failure to protect civilians and an unacceptable breach of international humanitarian norms.
Children must never become victims of geopolitical conflicts. When a school becomes a graveyard for innocent young lives, humanity itself has failed.
MyChild International calls upon the international community, the United Nations, and global human rights institutions to launch an independent international investigation into the Minab school attack and ensure that those responsible are held fully accountable under international law.
Justice must be served for the children of Minab. Their lives cannot be reduced to collateral damage in a war.
The protection of children must remain a universal moral and legal obligation that transcends politics and military objectives.
