PRESS STATEMENT
9th December 2025
TRUMP’S UTTERLY EVIL STATEMENT ON SOMALIA EXPOSES U.S. HYPOCRISY AND HISTORICAL AMNESIA
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) strongly condemns the latest malicious remarks made by Donald Trump against Somalia. His statement is not only deeply insulting to a sovereign nation but also reflects a dangerous level of ignorance and hypocrisy, given the United States’ own bloody history of military intervention in Somalia.
Trump speaks as if Somalia collapsed on its own. The world remembers otherwise.
- The United States Forgets Its Own Invasion of Somalia
Trump conveniently ignores that:
- In the early 1990s, U.S. troops invaded Somalia, leading to the killing of civilians in incidents such as Black Hawk Down.
- These operations destroyed social structures and triggered long-term instability.
- Subsequent foreign interventions, including drone strikes and covert operations, have continued to fuel insecurity and suffering.
For Trump to insult Somalia without acknowledging the destructive legacy of U.S. military involvement is a clear display of the arrogance of power that has long shaped Washington’s foreign policy.
- Somalia Must Not Be Used as a Political Punching Bag
Trump’s attack on Somalia fits his pattern of weaponizing vulnerable nations for political capital. Somalia is an easy target in his rhetoric because:
- it is a Muslim-majority nation
- it is impoverished due to decades of external interference
- it lacks the global media voice to defend itself
This reflects a politics of dehumanization that must be firmly rejected.
- The Global Community Must Not Allow the U.S. to Rewrite Histor y
Somalia’s turmoil did not emerge in a vacuum. It is tied to:
- foreign powers dismantling its social fabric
- exploitation of resources
- prolonged conflicts prolonged by external geopolitical interests
- generations traumatized by warfare and economic collapse
Given this context, Donald Trump has no moral authority to belittle a nation that is still rebuilding itself from the chaos partly created by the United States.
- MAPIM Demands the Following:
- A public apology from Donald Trump to the people of Somalia.
- An immediate end to U.S. military interference, including drone strikes.
- Moral and material accountability from the United States for its role in destabilizing Somalia.
- Respect for the sovereignty and dignity of African nations long subjected to Western geopolitical manipulation.
- An international mechanism to protect Somalia from political exploitation and unlawful military actions by foreign powers.
- The Muslim World and Africa Must Stand Together
Trump’s remarks reflect how little value is placed on African and Muslim lives in segments of U.S. political culture. The response must be unity and assertiveness. The Muslim world and African nations must:
- strengthen solidarity
- reclaim their narrative
- demand historical justice
- reject the hegemony that continues to disrespect their dignity
Somalia deserves support, not humiliation.
It deserves justice, not mockery.
It deserves sovereignty, not interference.
MAPIM stands firmly with the people of Somalia.
We reject all forms of degradation and political manipulation.
We affirm that no superpower has the right to demean a nation whose suffering was worsened by their own actions.
Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid
President MAPIM
