PRESS RELEASE
10th December 2025
INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DAY – 10 DECEMBER 2025
“ KASHMIRIS DENIED HUMAN RIGHTS FOR DECADES – MAPIM DEMANDS THE RELEASE OF ALL KASHMIRI POLITICAL DETAINEES IN INDIA”
PUTRAJAYA, 10 December 2025 —
On the occasion of International Human Rights Day 2025, MAPIM (Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia) expresses deep alarm that the people of Indian-Illegal Occupied Kashmir continue to be denied their basic human rights for more than seven decades. Despite global commitments to justice and dignity, the region remains one of the most militarized zones on earth, with widespread reports of restrictions, detentions, censorship, and systematic violations against civilians.
MAPIM stresses that this day cannot be fully commemorated when Kashmiris continue to suffer severe curtailment of freedoms, including the right to life, liberty, political expression, peaceful assembly, and due legal process.
*THE PLIGHT OF POLITICAL DETAINEES, INCLUDING YASIN MALIK
MAPIM expresses grave concern over the condition and treatment of Yasin Malik, a prominent Kashmiri political figure whose trial and conviction have raised serious international questions regarding fairness, transparency, and due process. His case has been widely criticized by human rights observers who view it as politically motivated and inconsistent with internationally accepted legal standards.
The prolonged confinement, harsh conditions, and health concerns surrounding Yasin Malik highlight the plight of many other Kashmiri detainees, including activists, students, journalists, and community leaders who remain held without transparent legal proceedings.
MAPIM underscores that the use of extended detention—especially under laws allowing for detention without charge—stands in clear contradiction to international human rights norms.
MAPIM’S DEMANDS
MAPIM calls upon the Government of India, international human rights bodies, and global civil society to:
- Immediately release all Kashmiri political detainees, including Yasin Malik, or ensure they are afforded fair, transparent, and independent trials consistent with international law.
- Allow unhindered access for humanitarian organizations, legal representatives, and human rights monitors in Kashmir.
- Restore civil liberties, including freedom of movement, communication, assembly, and political participation.
- End policies that perpetuate fear, suppression, and demographic disruption in the region.
- Engage in a peaceful, just, and inclusive political process that restores the rights and dignity of Kashmiris. DECADES OF SUPPRESSION MUST END
For generations, Kashmiris have endured political repression, enforced disappearances, restrictions on journalism, and severe human rights violations. MAPIM reiterates that Human Rights Day becomes meaningless if the international community continues to overlook the immense suffering in Kashmir.
Global attention and collective advocacy are urgently required to prevent further deterioration of human rights in the region.
MAPIM affirms its unwavering solidarity with the people of Kashmir and stands with all efforts toward justice, freedom, and peaceful resolution.
