PRESS RELEASE
WORLD JOURNALISTS MUST RISE
Kuala Lumpur | 24 January 2026
The world is witnessing one of the darkest chapters in the history of journalism.
The number of journalists martyred in Gaza has now reached 260, following the targeted assassination of three more Palestinian journalists:
●Abdul Raouf Samir Shaat
●Mohammed Salah Qashta
●Anas Abdullah Ghanim
These were not accidental deaths. They were not collateral damage. They were deliberate, systematic, and targeted killings carried out by the Israeli occupation against those whose only weapon was truth.
Journalists in Gaza are being hunted because they refuse to be silent. They are being eliminated because they expose war crimes, document genocide, and carry the voice of an oppressed people to the world.
This is not only an attack on Palestine.
This is an attack on journalism itself.
MAPIM strongly condemns the ongoing campaign of terror against Palestinian media workers. The killing of journalists is a war crime under international humanitarian law. It is a direct assault on freedom of expression, the right to information, and the moral foundation of the global media profession.
We hold:
■The Israeli occupation fully responsible.
■And all states that arm, fund, protect, and politically shield Israel as complicit partners in these crimes.
Silence is no longer neutrality. Silence is collaboration.
MAPIM calls upon:
●The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ)
●The Federation of Arab Journalists
●UNESCO, CPJ, RSF
●And every journalists’ union and media institution worldwide
to break their cowardly silence and take a clear moral stand.
Words of concern are no longer enough. Condolences are no longer enough. Statements without action are no longer enough.
We demand:
Immediate international protection mechanisms for journalists in Gaza.
Independent international investigations into the systematic targeting of media workers.
Prosecution of Israeli military and political leaders in international courts for war crimes.
Sanctions and diplomatic pressure against any state that enables these atrocities.
Journalists are not soldiers.
Cameras are not weapons.
Truth is not a threat, except to tyrants.
If 260 journalists can be killed and the world remains silent, then journalism has already been buried under the rubble of Gaza.
This is the moment for the global media community to choose:
●Either stand with truth, justice, and humanity.
●Or be remembered as the generation that watched genocide and chose comfort over conscience.
MAPIM salutes the courage of Palestinian journalists who continue to report under bombs, hunger, and fear. They are not merely reporters. They are the conscience of our time.
May Allah grant mercy and eternal honour to all martyred journalists.
May their blood awaken a world that has slept for too long.
History will not judge who spoke the loudest.
History will judge who dared to speak at all.
