MAPIM PRESS RELEASE
Date: 15th April 2025
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organization (MAPIM) strongly condemns the escalating human rights violations perpetrated by the Indian government against its Muslim minority population. Under the guise of legislative and administrative reforms, the enforcement of the Public Premises Eviction Act and the Waqf Act in various Indian states has led to widespread displacement, harassment, and targeted suppression of Muslim communities.
These acts are being weaponized to seize and demolish mosques, madrasas, and homes belonging to Muslims—stripping them of their heritage, institutions, and legal rights under the pretext of “illegal encroachment” or “unauthorized construction.”
We are alarmed by the blatant fascist ideology guiding such policies, which parallel the Zionist regime’s methods of dispossession against Palestinians. Just as Palestinian families are expelled from their ancestral lands, Muslims in India now face a systematic campaign to erase their identity, deny their religious freedoms, and marginalize them politically and economically.
MAPIM strongly affirms:
- These actions constitute clear violations of international human rights law and the Indian Constitution’s own guarantees of religious freedom and equal protection.
- The use of state machinery and legal instruments to oppress a minority population reflects dangerous authoritarian trends that must be condemned universally.
- Drawing comparisons with Israeli apartheid policies is valid and necessary, as both regimes employ land confiscation, displacement, and discriminatory laws to subjugate Muslim populations.
- The silence of international institutions and major democracies is deeply troubling and exposes double standards in the defense of human rights.
Our Demands:
1.We urge the United Nations, OIC, and global human rights bodies to initiate immediate investigations into India’s systematic persecution of Muslims.
2.We call upon the Malaysian government and ASEAN to raise this matter in international diplomatic forums and express solidarity with oppressed communities.
3.We urge Indian civil society and justice-seeking citizens to oppose these draconian measures and protect the pluralistic fabric of their nation.
4.We appeal to the global Muslim ummah to remain vigilant and united in the face of rising Islamophobia masked as national security or urban development.
India cannot claim to be the world’s largest democracy while institutionalizing religious discrimination and implementing laws that replicate the colonial logic of occupation and ethnic erasure.
MAPIM stands firmly with all oppressed minorities fighting for justice, dignity, and the right to live freely in their own homeland—be it in India, Palestine, or anywhere in the world.
