MAPIM CONDEMNS EU-ISRAEL TRADE TIES AMID GENOCIDE IN GAZA
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) strongly condemns the European Union (EU) for continuing and even deepening trade relations with the apartheid regime of Israel, at a time when mass atrocities and crimes against humanity are being perpetrated in Gaza.
The recent revelations that EU and Israeli officials have formally met to expand economic cooperation and facilitate faster entry of EU products into the Israeli market — including in the medical equipment sector — are clear proof of Brussels’ hypocrisy and moral bankruptcy. This comes despite EU’s claims of upholding human rights and international law.
While the people of Gaza are being killed, starved, and denied essential healthcare and basic needs, the EU has disbursed over USD 1.25 billion in research funding to Israel from 2020 to 2024. This includes grants to institutions directly or indirectly linked to Israel’s war and occupation apparatus.
What is even more outrageous is that these funds cover projects in health and medicine, while Gaza’s hospitals are being bombed, doctors killed or detained, babies left to die, and medical aid cruelly blocked by Israel’s siege.
These acts of deepening cooperation clearly position the European Union as a partner and accomplice in genocide. This is not a case of negligence — it is an active, conscious collaboration in normalizing, financing, and protecting Israel’s crimes against the Palestinian people.
MAPIM strongly asserts that:
- The European Union is complicit in war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
- All EU financial aid and research cooperation with Israel must be terminated immediately.
- All governments that embrace justice must issue a formal protest to the EU and reassess its diplomatic and economic ties with EU member states supporting Israel.
We also urge the global community — particularly Muslim countries and the Global South — to reject and boycott all forms of economic collaboration with both the EU and Israel until justice is restored and Gaza is freed.
Stop the hypocrisy! Stop supporting occupation! Free Palestine!
