*IN THE COMING 15 MAY 2025 – *77 YEARS OF THE NAKBAH
THE FAILURE OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY TO END ISRAEL’S OCCUPATION AND GENOCIDE**
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) expresses its deep sorrow and outrage at the continued failure of the international community to end Israel’s brutal occupation, systematic ethnic cleansing, and genocide of the Palestinian people for the past 77 years since the catastrophe of the Nakbah on 15 May 1948.
The Nakbah is not just a historical tragedy—it is a living catastrophe. It marked the beginning of one of the longest ongoing colonial occupations in modern history: the destruction of over 500 Palestinian towns and villages, the displacement of more than 750,000 people, and the establishment of an apartheid regime that continues today with impunity.
MAPIM declares the following position:
- The world has failed. The United Nations, global powers, and international systems have allowed Israel to continue its crimes for more than seven decades, culminating in the horrific genocide in Gaza since October 2023.
- In the 77 years of suffering cannot be forgiven. Over 60,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza in a matter 17 months, with children and women being the majority of victims, and hospitals, mosques, schools, and civilian infrastructure destroyed systematically.
- Israel is a settler-colonial and apartheid regime. It practices racial discrimination, land theft, and war crimes in full violation of international law and humanitarian conventions.
- The international community is complicit. The United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and the European Union continue to supply arms and provide political cover for Israel’s crimes.
- The Muslim Ummah must rise. The failure of the global powers necessitates a unified response from Muslim countries, civil society, scholars, and people’s movements to resist the occupation and support Palestinian liberation.
- For 77 Years of Nakbah symbolizes betrayal and the urgency of awakening. A just global order cannot emerge as long as Israel’s crimes remain unchecked. MAPIM urges the following actions:
Immediate severance of all ties—economic, diplomatic, military—with the apartheid state of Israel.
Urgent legal action by the ICC and ICJ to prosecute Israeli leaders for war crimes and genocide.
Stronger and coordinated action by the OIC, Arab League, and Global South nations—not just statements of condemnation.
Full support for the Palestinian resistance as a legitimate struggle under international law.
MAPIM calls for 15 May to be commemorated as a Global Day of Solidarity with Palestine, not only in remembrance of the Nakbah but as a call to intensify pressure on Israel and to unite all pro-justice movements for the total liberation of Palestine.
Justice must prevail. Occupation must end. Palestine must be free.
