PRESS STATEMENT
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Date: 7 May 2025
Issued by: Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM)
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) expresses our deepest outrage and condemnation over the systematic and brutal assassination of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli apartheid regime. We are appalled by the staggering number of 213 journalist martyrs, the latest being Nour Al-Din Matar Abdo, a dedicated broadcaster and news editor, killed in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood, east of Gaza City.
This is not mere collateral damage — this is targeted extermination of the voice of truth.
To Malaysian journalists, media professionals, and press unions: now is the time to rise!
You are not just observers of global events — you are the frontline defenders of truth. The silence and inaction of the media world in the face of genocide is complicity. The deliberate killing of journalists is a war crime, a direct assault on press freedom, and a calculated attempt to silence the narrative of the oppressed.
The murder of 213 journalists is not a statistic — it is a resounding call to action.
MAPIM Demands:
- A unified statement by all Malaysian press associations condemning the targeted killing of journalists in Gaza.
- An emergency session by media unions, including NUJ Malaysia, to deliberate urgent protection and advocacy measures for Palestinian journalists.
- Boycott of media outlets and platforms complicit in covering up Israeli crimes, and pressure on tech companies that suppress pro-Palestinian reporting.
- A global journalist solidarity campaign initiated from Malaysia, under the banner:
“Truth Under Fire: Journalism is Not a Crime.”
- An official memorandum submitted to the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) from Malaysian media institutions, demanding investigation and international prosecution of Israeli war crimes against journalists.
MAPIM Calls Upon:
■The Ministry of Communications and Digital Malaysia to officially condemn the killing of journalists in Gaza.
■RTM, TV3, Astro Awani, BERNAMA, Harakah, Sinar, and all major news outlets to run special segments and tributes to the fallen journalists of Gaza.
■Journalism faculties in Malaysian universities to conduct teach-ins and academic events on the ethics of journalism under oppression and genocide.
This genocide against Palestinian journalists is not just an attack on the people of Gaza — it is an attack on truth, on humanity, and on the very soul of journalism.
We will not be silent. We will not allow their voices to be buried.
May Allah elevate the status of all martyred journalists and protect those who continue to risk their lives to tell the truth. We stand with the journalists of Gaza. We stand with justice. We stand with Palestine.
End the silence. End the genocide. Rise for truth.
