PRESS STATEMENT
5th June 2025
COURAGEOUS HARVARD UNIVERSITY GRADUATES STANDING UP AGAINST U.S. AND ISRAEL: A HISTORIC ACT OF CONSCIENCE
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organization (MAPIM) expresses our deep admiration and solidarity with the courageous graduates of Harvard University who took a historic stand during their recent commencement ceremony by boldly speaking truth to power — condemning the complicity of the United States and Israel in the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
This act of defiance in one of the world’s most elite institutions, under immense pressure and intimidation, sends a powerful message to the world: the youth are rising, and they will not be silent in the face of oppression.
We salute these brave graduates who used their moment of achievement not for personal glory, but to elevate the cause of Palestinian liberation and to denounce U.S. imperialism and Israel’s crimes against humanity. Despite threats, surveillance, blacklists, and institutional repression, they stood with integrity and moral clarity.
This moment proves that:
■ The truth about Gaza cannot be silenced
■ The complicity of the U.S. government in arming and financing Israel’s atrocities is being exposed — even within its own institutions.
■Students and youth are leading a global movement of conscience that refuses to normalize genocide, apartheid, and occupation.
MAPIM calls on students across Malaysia, ASEAN, and the Global South to follow this powerful example. Let this courageous act by the Harvard graduates be a turning point in global student solidarity with the people of Palestine.
We demand that academic institutions uphold freedom of expression and the right to dissent, and we urge governments around the world to stop shielding Israel from accountability under international law.
MAPIM reiterates our full support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, and we stand united with youth and student movements who speak up for justice, dignity, and freedom for all oppressed people.
History will remember these graduates not for their degrees, but for their courage.
From Harvard to Gaza — the struggle for justice is one.
