The Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia (MAPIM) calls upon the leadership of the United States and the people of America to exercise wisdom, restraint and moral responsibility in preventing any military action against Iran.
Recent developments indicate rising tensions, with President Donald Trump openly stating that he is considering limited military strikes while negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program continue.
This comes despite diplomatic signals from Iran that proposals are being prepared and talks may advance within days.
The world stands at a dangerous crossroads.
Military escalation against Iran would not remain a contained conflict. It carries the risk of triggering regional war, disrupting global energy supplies and drawing multiple powers into confrontation. The deployment of significant military forces in the region has already heightened fears of a wider crisis.
MAPIM stresses that war must never be the default instrument of policy when diplomatic pathways remain open.
The American political system is built upon constitutional checks and balances. Legal experts and lawmakers in the United States have already raised concerns regarding the authority to initiate military action without congressional approval, emphasizing that the power to declare war rests with Congress.
This constitutional principle is not merely a domestic matter. It is a safeguard against reckless decisions that could endanger global peace.
The responsibility therefore extends beyond the administration alone.
The White House must prioritize diplomacy over coercion.
Congress must assert its constitutional role.
Civil society must raise its voice.
The American people must recognize that another war in the Middle East will carry profound human and economic costs, including consequences for American families, soldiers and taxpayers.
History has repeatedly shown that military intervention in the region produces long term instability rather than sustainable security.
MAPIM urges:
- The United States administration to halt any consideration of military strikes and pursue negotiations in good faith.
- The United States Congress to assert constitutional oversight to prevent unilateral war decisions.
- American civil society, faith communities and peace movements to advocate strongly for diplomacy.
- The international community to support dialogue mechanisms that reduce tensions.
Peace with dignity is always stronger than war driven by pressure.
The people of the United States possess the moral authority to influence their nation’s direction. At this critical moment, that voice is needed to prevent escalation and preserve global stability.
The world does not need another war.
It needs leadership grounded in wisdom, restraint and humanity.
Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid
President
MAPIM
