PRESS STATEMENT
GOVERNMENT MUST TAKE SERIOUS MEASURES TO MONITOR THE SPREAD OF HINDUTVA IDEOLOGY IN MALAYSIA : CONCERNS OVER RSS INFLUENCE AND RADICALISATION RISKS
Kuala Lumpur | 28th Februrary 2026
MAPIM urges the Government of Malaysia to take firm and proactive measures to monitor and assess the potential spread of Hindutva extremist ideology within the country, particularly concerns relating to the influence of organisations linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), an ideological movement widely associated with religious nationalism and sectarian extremism in India.
Malaysia has long been built upon principles of multicultural harmony, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among diverse religious communities.
Any attempt to introduce exclusivist or supremacist ideologies that promote division, intolerance, or hostility toward other faith groups must be treated as a serious national concern.
Hindutva ideology, in its political form, has been internationally observed as promoting religious majoritarianism and discrimination against minority communities, especially Muslims and Christians in India.
The growing global networking of ideological movements raises legitimate concerns that similar narratives could be exported to diaspora environments, including Southeast Asia.
MAPIM stresses that this issue must be approached responsibly and professionally.
The objective is not to stigmatise any religious community in Malaysia. Hinduism as a faith tradition has coexisted peacefully within Malaysian society for generations.
The concern specifically relates to politicised extremist ideology that may exploit religion for nationalist or supremacist agendas.
Reports and developments internationally indicate that organisations connected to Hindutva networks have attempted to establish influence in various countries through cultural, educational, or community channels.
Preventive monitoring is therefore essential to ensure that Malaysia remains free from imported extremist ideologies that could threaten social cohesion.
MAPIM calls upon relevant authorities including security agencies and regulatory bodies to:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of foreign ideological influence networks
- Monitor organisations that may be linked to extremist political movements abroad
- Strengthen safeguards against hate speech, radicalisation, and sectarian mobilisation
- Promote interfaith harmony programs to reinforce national unity
- Ensure transparency and compliance with Malaysian laws governing civil organisations
Malaysia must remain vigilant against all forms of extremism regardless of origin, whether religious, political, or ethnic.
Preventive action is always more effective than reactive measures after tensions escalate.
MAPIM reiterates its commitment to national harmony, peaceful coexistence, and respect for all religions while firmly opposing any ideology that promotes hatred, supremacy, or social division.
National unity is a shared responsibility that requires vigilance, wisdom, and principled leadership.
MAPIM calls upon the Government to act responsibly and decisively to safeguard Malaysia’s social harmony and national security.
