WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY – STRENGTHENING VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT

We celebrate World Humanitarian Day on 19th August 2021 with a statement of determination to strenghten the commitment of humanitarian volunteers in Malaysia in particular and around the world in general.

The celebration, declared by the UN in 2008, reminded the world of the tragedy that killed 21 humanitarian workers, including a representative of the UN Secretary -General, Sergio Vieira de Mello, in the bomb attack on the UN headquarters in Baghdad on 19 August 2003.

We emphasize that the world that is now in a multi -dimensional crisis, cannot be resolved if world leaders do not have a strong political will to take decisive steps to curb conflict and stop the destruction of the environment.

Humanitarian volunteers have played a major role while exposing themselves to risk when they are willing to extend assistance to victims of war and natural disasters in dangerous locations.

This special day, is celebrated to appreciate the role of humanitarian workers who strive as much as possible to help those who are victims of various world crises.

This year, the focus is on the climate crisis and the direct humanitarian costs incurred around the world.

We agree that the climate crisis as a theme for this year is very serious and requires the attention of the authorities to prevent and overcome natural disasters due to the errors of the development model adopted.

It is time for governments of all countries to recognize humanitarian workers as part of a valued and should be fully facilitated .
.
In Malaysia, various NGOs that execute humanitarian initiatives to help the people who are victims must be facilitated and strengthened by the government.

A humanitarian coordination board among NGOs needs to be set up to increase the capacity to implement humanitarian work effectively.

World leaders need to take consistent efforts to address the global climate crisis and serve to protect the vulnerable community.

This day , should encourage all humanitarian volunteers to join forces to be adhance their committment to carrying out their responsibilities with full dedication.

We call on all communities to support humanitarian workers in various missions carried out in and outside of the country.
