MAPIM Demands Independent Investigation on Pahalgam Strike, Urges Restraint and Respect for International Law
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) strongly condemns the recent missile strikes carried out by India under its so-called “Operation Sindoor,” which targeted nine sites within Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, including the Pahalgam region.
According to official reports, at least eight civilians have been killed and over 35 wounded in the attacks on six different locations. These aggressive actions represent a grave escalation in regional hostilities and pose a serious threat to the fragile peace between two nuclear-armed neighbors.
MAPIM views these strikes as a flagrant violation of international law, undermining regional stability and threatening the security of millions in South Asia. Such unilateral military actions bypass all norms of diplomacy and provoke unnecessary human suffering. Pakistan has rightly denounced the strikes as an “act of war,” and the situation risks spiraling into a broader conflict with devastating consequences.
We issue the following demands:
Immediate Cessation of Hostilities
Both India and Pakistan must exercise maximum restraint and de-escalate tensions to prevent a full-scale conflict that would engulf the region in violence and humanitarian disaster.
Independent International Investigation
We call for a United Nations-led independent investigation into the Pahalgam strikes and other reported attacks, to determine the legality and human impact of India’s military operation.
Uphold International Law
All nations must be held accountable for breaches of international humanitarian law. The targeting of civilian areas cannot be tolerated or normalized. We urge the international community to condemn acts of aggression that violate the sovereignty of nations and the rights of innocent civilians.
Revive Diplomatic and Peaceful Dialogue
MAPIM calls upon the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and ASEAN to urge both India and Pakistan to return to diplomatic channels to address long-standing grievances, especially on the Kashmir issue.
Solidarity with Victims and Call for Justice
We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims in the Inida strike and in the Pahalgam incident. Their lives must not be lost in vain. We urge global civil society and human rights groups to raise their voices and demand justice and accountability.
The world cannot afford to remain silent. We urge the international community to prevail upon India to halt its aggressive operations and adhere to the principles of international law and peace.
Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid
President, MAPIM (Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia)
