MAPIM PRAISES POPE LEO FOR STANDING UP FOR GAZA, CRITICIZES TRUMP’S RHETORIC, WELCOMES CHINA’S HUMANITARIAN AID INITIATIVE
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) expresses deep appreciation to Pope Leo XIV for his recent public statement urging an end to the genocide in Gaza and calling for immediate humanitarian access to the besieged population.
Pope Leo’s moral clarity and bold stance are commendable, especially in a time when many world leaders have failed to uphold basic human values. His voice adds powerful moral weight to the global demand for justice and the protection of innocent civilians in Gaza.
At the same time, MAPIM strongly criticizes former U.S. President Donald Trump for his inflammatory and irresponsible remarks that blatantly support Israeli aggression. His comments not only ignore the suffering of the Palestinian people but also fuel further violence and destabilization in the region.
Trump’s stance on still wanting to proceed to take over Gaza by displacement of the whole population of Gaza must be condemned and rejected.
MAPIM also welcomes China’s recent initiative to deliver large-scale humanitarian aid to Gaza, including medical supplies, food, and rebuilding materials. This gesture is a positive step in responding to the urgent needs of the Palestinian people and shows meaningful international solidarity beyond rhetoric.
MAPIM calls on all world religious leaders, civil society organizations, and international governments to intensify pressure on Israel to end its war crimes, lift the blockade, and allow full humanitarian access to Gaza.
Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, President of MAPIM, stated:
“We salute Pope Leo for his courage and humanity. At a time of cowardly silence, his voice echoes the true spirit of justice. We also commend China’s concrete humanitarian response, while we reject any statements, like Trump’s, that justify oppression. The world must act now — not later — to save Gaza.”
MAPIM will continue to coordinate with global partners and mobilize international solidarity to ensure the Palestinian people are not abandoned in their hour of greatest need.
