OFFICIAL PRESS STATEMENT
10 JUNE 2025
MAPIM CONDEMNS ISRAEL’S ILLEGAL SEIZURE OF “MADLEEN” AID SHIP – A VIOLATION OF INTERNATIONAL LAW AND A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) strongly condemns the outrageous act by the Zionist Israeli regime in intercepting and seizing the international humanitarian aid ship “Madleen” in international waters. The vessel was on a peaceful mission to deliver vital aid to the besieged people of Gaza.
This act constitutes blatant piracy under international maritime law and is a grave violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Once again, Israel has demonstrated its impunity and brutality by obstructing humanitarian relief and violating the rights of Palestinians under siege.
MAPIM DECLARES THE FOLLOWING:
- The “Madleen” ship was a humanitarian mission, carrying international peace activists and symbolic aid including food, medicine, and baby supplies to Gaza, which has been under illegal blockade for over 17 years.
- The seizure took place in international waters, making it an unlawful act under international law and a violation of the freedom of navigation and the sanctity of humanitarian missions.
- We demand the immediate and unconditional release of all detained activists and for the aid cargo to be delivered without interference to Gaza through independent humanitarian channels.
- This incident is a continuation of Israel’s crimes against humanity, following the horrific killing of 8 Malaysian humanitarian volunteers in Gaza on 15 March 2025 — a massacre that remains unaccounted for.
- MAPIM urges the Government of Malaysia, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and UN member states to issue formal condemnation and diplomatic pressure on Israel. This incident must be referred to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
- We call upon the people of Malaysia and the international community to stand in solidarity with the oppressed in Gaza and support the “Qurban for Gaza” campaign, to ensure that aid continues to reach the victims despite Israel’s aggression.
MAPIM reiterates that Israel’s lawless behaviour must not go unchallenged. The seizure of the “Madleen” is not just an act of aggression, but a statement of impunity by a rogue state that disregards human rights and humanitarian principles.
We urge all civil society organisations, governments, and peace-loving individuals to rise and demand the release of the “Madleen” activists and the end of the illegal blockade on Gaza.
“The Siege on Gaza is a Crime – Humanitarian Aid is a Right!”
