MAPIM CALLS FOR PM MALAYSIA TO LEAD GLOBAL MAJORITY TO SANCTION ISRAEL AND MOVE FOR THE UNITING FOR PEACE IN THE UN CHARTER TO STOP ISRAEL’S BARBARISM
Kuala Lumpur
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) calls upon YAB Prime Minister to lead the Global Majority in immediate, coordinated measures to stop Israel’s rampage in Gaza by:
- Imposing targeted and broad sanctions on the State of Israel and entities directly complicit in violations of international humanitarian law;
- Suspending diplomatic relations and economic cooperation with Israel until hostilities cease and urgent humanitarian access is guaranteed;
- Initiating and supporting a Uniting for Peace resolution under the UN Charter to mobilise the General Assembly to take collective action when the Security Council is paralysed;
- Pushing for an immediate and protected humanitarian corridor guaranteed by regional and international actors, including neutral enforcement if required;
- Backing international investigations and prosecutions at the International Criminal Court and other relevant tribunals into alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.
“We have grown wary of words,” MAPIM echoes the urgency of the situation and recalls the Prime Minister’s stark warning:
“Our people have become wary of words. They have watched us issue condemnation after condemnation, declaration after declaration, while Israel escalates with impunity, as future generations will ask whether we found the courage to act. We do not ask nations to go beyond their basic obligations. Condemnations will not stop the missiles. Declarations will not free Palestine. Severe, punitive actions must be put in place. Diplomatic engagements must cease, and so must relations with Israel.” — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
MAPIM stresses that moral leadership demands more than rhetoric. When the Security Council fails to act, the moral duty of states and peoples remains: to protect civilians, to uphold international law, and to prevent genocide. Malaysia — with its diplomatic credibility and moral standing — must champion a united front of states representing the Global Majority to:
Re-establish deterrence through sanctions and credible regional guarantees;
Ensure accountability through binding international legal mechanisms;
Protect civilians via safe zones and enforcement of humanitarian law; and
Lead multilateral economic and diplomatic pressure (banking restrictions, arms embargoes, trade measures, travel bans on implicated officials, and suspension of cooperative agreements).
MAPIM calls on all political parties, civil society organisations, faith institutions, trade unions, and citizens in Malaysia and beyond to support this initiative through peaceful advocacy, coordinated diplomacy, and principled pressure on governments and international institutions.
