PEOPLE OF ITALY – AN AWAKENING FOR PALESTINE UNPRECEDENTED, SUPPORT MUST NOT BE CONDITIONAL FOR PALESTINIAN RECOGNITION
Shah Alam, Malaysia – 4th October 2025
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) hails the people of Italy for their unprecedented courage and solidarity in rising up for Palestine. The recent mobilizations, labor strikes, and mass demonstrations led by Italian civil society and trade unions mark a historic awakening of conscience against Israel’s crimes and genocide in Gaza.
MAPIM stresses that the support of the Italian people reflects the growing global tide of resistance against Israel’s apartheid regime and its continued occupation of Palestinian land. This is not only a moral stand but also a powerful political message: the world will not remain silent in the face of genocide.
MAPIM underlines the following principles:
- Unconditional Support for Palestine – Recognition of Palestinian rights and statehood must never be conditional upon negotiations with the occupier or acceptance of unjust “peace deals.” The Palestinian struggle is rooted in inalienable rights under international law.
- An Unprecedented Awakening – The Italian people, through collective action, have set an example for Europe and the world that solidarity with Palestine must be visible, organized, and uncompromising.
- Beyond Symbolism – Support must translate into concrete measures: sanctions on Israel, boycott of companies complicit in occupation, pressure on governments to end arms trade, and full recognition of the State of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.
MAPIM calls on governments, civil society, and trade unions across Europe and the world to follow the example of Italy. The awakening in Italy proves that when ordinary people unite, they can challenge the structures of power that sustain occupation.
The liberation of Palestine depends not on conditional diplomacy, but on the unwavering solidarity of people who refuse to normalize oppression.
