*MAPIM Condemns Israel’s Annexation Bill of the West Bank — A Threat to Justice, Peace and Palestinian Rights
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) expresses its strong condemnation of the preliminary approval by the Knesset of bills to apply Israeli law to the West Bank and potentially annex territory that Palestinians seek for their future state.
These legislative moves are a clear violation of international law, the UN Charter, and multiple UN Security Council resolutions—including those reaffirmed by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) advisory opinion which deemed the occupation, expansion and annexation of these territories illegal.
MAPIM views the annexation bill as:
an act of unilateral colonial expansion which further entrenches injustice and denies the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination;
a major obstacle to the two-state solution and genuine peace in the region;
a provocation that will destabilise the already fragile humanitarian and security environment in the region.
We therefore call upon:
- The Israeli government to immediately halt all annexation plans and respect international law and UN resolutions.
- The international community — including UN bodies, Islamic countries, and human-rights organisations — to act decisively in holding Israel accountable, ensuring compliance with the ICJ ruling and supporting the rights of the Palestinian people.
- Governments anywhere with influence to refuse recognition or legitimacy of any forced change of status of the occupied territories that disregards Palestinian rights and international law.
- Civil society, faith-based networks and global humanitarian actors to support the Palestinian people, press for protection of civilian rights, and oppose impunity for occupation policy.
MAPIM stands with the Palestinian people in their just cause and emphasises that resisting annexation is not only a legal obligation, but a moral duty for all who believe in justice, dignity and peace.
Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid
President, MAPIM
