PRESS RELEASE
23 March 2026
Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia (MAPIM) expresses grave concern over the escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, which are rapidly approaching a dangerous point of no return.
MAPIM supports the urgent warning issued by Malaysian civil society organisations Projek SAMA, Bersih, IKRAM and ABIM, highlighting the catastrophic consequences of any military strike targeting critical civilian infrastructure.
TARGETING CIVILIAN INFRASTRUCTURE IS A RED LINE
The reported plan to strike Iran’s electricity grid, coupled with threats of retaliation against water and energy facilities in Gulf countries, represents a deeply alarming escalation.
Such actions would:
Endanger millions of civilians
Disrupt access to water, electricity, and healthcare
Trigger wider regional retaliation
Escalate into a prolonged and uncontrollable conflict
This is not a limited military engagement.
This is the beginning of a humanitarian disaster.
CIVILIANS WILL PAY THE PRICE
The destruction of essential infrastructure is not a tactical move.
It is collective punishment.
Millions of ordinary people, families, children, and vulnerable communities will bear the consequences of decisions made far from the battlefield.
MAPIM stresses that targeting such infrastructure violates fundamental principles of international humanitarian law and must not be normalized under any circumstances.
A DIRECT APPEAL TO AMERICAN VOTERS
With all 435 House seats and 33 Senate seats up for election, the American people hold real political power at this critical moment.
MAPIM urges American voters:
●To reject escalation towards war
●To demand accountability from their leaders
●To act before irreversible damage is done
Silence in the face of escalation is complicity.
History will judge not only leaders, but also those who had the power to influence the course of events and failed to act.
REGIONAL AND GLOBAL CONSEQUENCES
Any attack on energy and water systems will not remain contained.
It will:
●Destabilize the entire West Asia region
●Disrupt global energy markets
●Increase humanitarian suffering across multiple countries
●Deepen cycles of conflict and retaliation
The world cannot afford another preventable crisis.
The current trajectory is dangerous, irresponsible, and unsustainable.
MAPIM calls for immediate restraint, de-escalation, and respect for international law.
The time to act is now.
Before the region descends into a wider catastrophe.
