MAPIM URGES UK, FRANCE, AND CANADA TO ACT IMMEDIATELY — NOT JUST EMPTY RHETORIC

MAPIM (Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations) takes serious note of the joint statement by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, which threatens sanctions against Israel if the attacks on Gaza persist and humanitarian aid continues to be blocked.

While we welcome the acknowledgment of Israel’s blatant violations of international humanitarian law — including the inhumane blockade of Gaza and the calls for forced population transfer — we firmly assert that statements alone are not enough. The world demands immediate concrete action, not recycled diplomatic rhetoric.

1. Sanctions Must Be Imposed Immediately

Threats of sanctions must be translated into action without delay. Israel has imposed a total blockade on Gaza since 2 March, resulting in a catastrophic humanitarian crisis and over 53,000 deaths. If the UK, France, and Canada are truly committed to upholding international law, they must:

Suspend all arms sales, military aid, and defense cooperation with Israel.

Impose full-scale economic and diplomatic sanctions.

Support the prosecution of Israeli leaders responsible for war crimes at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

2. The Two-State Solution Must Not Delay Justice

MAPIM rejects the use of the “two-state solution” as a justification for delaying urgent measures. The so-called peace process has been used for decades as a shield to allow the ongoing colonization, apartheid, and ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.

3. Protection for Journalists in Gaza is Urgent

We strongly support Al Jazeera’s call for protection of journalists reporting from Gaza. Journalists are vital witnesses to war crimes, and targeting them is an attempt to silence the truth and shield Israel from accountability.

4. It’s Time for the Global South to Lead

MAPIM calls on countries of the Global South, the OIC, ASEAN, and the African Union to stop depending solely on Western powers. The Muslim world and developing nations must act collectively — sending humanitarian convoys, imposing boycotts, and demanding international intervention, including the deployment of peacekeeping forces to protect the people of Gaza.

Enough with the statements. Each day of inaction is a betrayal of humanity. MAPIM demands that the UK, France, and Canada stop issuing hollow threats and take real, enforceable steps to end this genocide — now.
