Issued by : Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM)
The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM), in collaboration with iReach Humanitarian Network, has dispatched an emergency response team to Cebu, Philippines, following the widespread destruction caused by Typhoon Tino, Super Typhoon Uwan, and the recent earthquake that struck the region.
The combined disasters have resulted in massive devastation — leaving thousands displaced, homes destroyed, and infrastructure severely damaged. MAPIM and iReach plan to mobilize a multi-sectoral team comprising medical volunteers, logistics personnel, and humanitarian relief officers to deliver urgent assistance to the affected communities.
Emergency Mission Objectives:
- Conduct rapid humanitarian assessment in affected zones of Cebu and surrounding areas.
- Deliver essential supplies — food, clean water, temporary shelter materials, and medical aid.
- Provide psychosocial support to victims, especially children and women affected by trauma.
- Coordinate with local authorities, Philippine Red Cross, and humanitarian partners for a cohesive and transparent relief operation.
MAPIM President Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid stated that the deployment demonstrates Malaysia’s solidarity with the people of the Philippines in times of crisis:
“We stand in empathy and action with our brothers and sisters in Cebu who are facing unimaginable hardship. Our humanitarian responsibility transcends borders — when lives are at stake, solidarity must become immediate response.”
The MAPIM–iReach team will operate from an established base in Cebu City, serving as a coordination hub for aid distribution and field assessment.
Call for Support:
MAPIM is appealing to Malaysians to contribute to the MAPIM Emergency Relief Fund to sustain ongoing operations in the Philippines. Donations and collaboration offers can be made through:
MAPIM expresses gratitude to all partners, volunteers, and supporters who continue to stand with humanity in the face of disasters. Together, we rebuild lives, restore hope, and reaffirm our shared acommitment to compassion without borders.
