MAPIM RESPONSE ON THE SITUATION IN IRAN
9 January 2026
Majlis Perundingan Pertubuhan Islam Malaysia (MAPIM) takes serious note of the recent address to the Iranian nation by Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, amid escalating tensions, internal unrest, and continued external pressure directed at the Islamic Republic.
MAPIM views the current situation in Iran within a broader context of sustained external interference, destabilisation strategies, and coercive policies, particularly by the United States and its allies, which have long sought to undermine Iran’s sovereignty, independence, and regional role.
- Rejection of Foreign Interference and Double Standards
MAPIM concurs that no nation has the right to lecture others on governance, democracy, or human rights while itself being mired in deep internal crises. Statements attributed to Donald Trump, dismissing international norms and openly endorsing aggressive foreign policies, reflect a dangerous mindset that prioritises power over law and morality.
The bloodshed resulting from recent US Israeli aggression, which reportedly claimed the lives of more than a thousand Iranians, cannot be ignored. These acts constitute grave violations of international law and further expose the hypocrisy of those who claim to champion human rights while enabling or committing violence against sovereign nations.
- Condemnation of Destabilisation and Proxy Violence
MAPIM firmly rejects acts of vandalism, rioting, and destruction of national property that serve external agendas rather than genuine public interest. History has shown that such actions are often encouraged, funded, or amplified by foreign actors seeking to weaken states from within.
Peaceful expression and reform must never be confused with chaos engineered to justify intervention. Destabilisation under the guise of freedom only leads to prolonged suffering, fragmentation, and loss of national dignity. - Sovereignty, Stability, and the Right to Self Determination
Every nation has the sovereign right to protect its security, institutions, and social cohesion against mercenaries, foreign proxies, and violent subversion. MAPIM affirms that internal matters must be resolved by the people of Iran themselves, free from sanctions, threats, or external coercion.
The repeated use of sanctions, psychological warfare, and hybrid conflict against Iran represents collective punishment and economic warfare that disproportionately harms civilians, not political elites. - A Wider Pattern of Hegemonic Conduct
MAPIM stresses that what is unfolding in Iran cannot be separated from a wider pattern of hegemonic behaviour witnessed in Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Venezuela, and elsewhere. The erosion of international law, selective application of human rights, and normalisation of regime change tactics pose a serious threat to global peace and stability.
MAPIM CALLS FOR
●Respect for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity
●An immediate end to external interference, sanctions, and aggression
●Accountability for all acts of violence that result in civilian deaths
●Adherence to international law, not unilateral “moral” claims by powerful states
●Regional and global dialogue grounded in justice, not coercion
MAPIM stands firmly against all forms of oppression, whether imposed through military force, economic strangulation, or engineered internal chaos. The path to peace lies in justice, sovereignty, dialogue, and respect for the will of nations, not in domination or destabilisation.
MAPIM reiterates that the Muslim world must remain vigilant and united against strategies that seek to divide, weaken, and control sovereign states under deceptive narratives.
